Institute of History and Theory of Art
One special focal point of the Institute is the art of the 20th century and the present day. We see the latter as a historic development that is to be analysed on the basis of its art historical roots. We thereby represent a perspective that extends beyond Eurocentric thought patterns and opens up a view of art and culture within a global and transcultural context.
For us, comprehending art as a form of perception and the shaping of reality implies its analysis within the framework of its social, political, cultural and religious interrelationships.
During our scientific activities, we rely upon profound theoretical reflection, the use and questioning of art historical methodology and interdisciplinary approaches.
