Beginn der BIP-Spring Academy: "Art, Space & the Public(s)".

Als Organisator und Gastgeber der Kooperationsveranstaltung fungiert der Fachbereich Kunstwissenschaft der KU Linz - teilnehmende Institutionen sind die West University of Timisoara (Rumänien), die University of Applied Sciences and Arts Antwerpen (Belgien), die Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Budapest (Ungarn) und die University of Osijek (Kroatien).

Das BIP-Program ist offen für Studierende im BA-Studium (ab dem zweiten Jahr) und im MA- bzw. PhD-Studium in den Feldern der Kunst, Kunstgeschichte, Kunstwissenschaft, Kunstvermittlung und -erziehung, der Kulturwissenschaften und verwandter Studien.

Die "Spring Academy" wird in englischer Sprache abgehalten und besteht aus drei Phasen (online und in Präsenz), die im Zeitraum vom 17. März bis zum 5. Mai 2025 stattfinden.

Den Start bildet das frei zugängliche, öffentliche Online-Symposium'Art, Space & the Public(s): What about Democracy?!' am 17. und 18. März 2025.

Summary
What is public art? What kind of art is 'public'? What does art for the public(s) mean? Public art – or art in public spaces – ranges from monuments in historical places and façade art to street art, community art, and artistic interventions – and much more. Public spaces, seen as meeting points for and with art, have been continuously changing, especially since postmodernism. Art (genres) in and for the public as well.

The BIP Programme provides an introductory overview of historical developments and discusses the theoretical framework of Art, Space and the Public(s) in an online symposium. These impulses serve as a foundation for exploring art in public spaces through field trips, guest lectures, and selected best practices. Thus, the focus is on contemporary forms and recent developments. Work-in-group sessions are dedicated to reflection and interdisciplinary exchange.
